The Musical Heritage of the Upper Snake River Valley Collection 1975–1978
The massive project that generated the documents in this collection ran from 1975 until 1979. The project, entitled "The Musical Heritage of the Upper Snake River Valley and its effect on human lives" was an in-depth evaluative study of the region's musical traditions. The study involved conducting surveys from 22 areas that included anywhere from 1 to 6 communities with the greater Snake River Valley region. Community members in each of the 22 regions were asked to fill out a survey concerning their musical experience in their community, and then, usually by the request of Ruth Barrus, community members would share a write-up about their personal musical experience or that of family members. Oftentimes, the write-ups would be accompanied with 1 to 3 photos of places or people. These surveys, write-ups, and photos make up the bulk of the collection; however, the collection also contains budgets, research, presentation transcripts, and video of presentations.
"The Musical Heritage of the Upper Snake River Valley and its effect on human lives" project operated from 1975 to 1979. The hope was to provide Ricks College and the community with an in-depth evaluative study of the region's musical traditions and to highlight the benefits of music in the lives of communities along the Snake River Plain and Ricks College students.

The massive project that generated the documents in this collection ran from 1975 until 1978. The project, entitled "The Musical Heritage of the Upper Snake River Valley and its effect on human lives" was an in-depth evaluative study of the region's musical traditions. The collection comprises the records created in the course of the project. It includes correspondence, research files, biographical sketches of local musicians, music history of communities, and texts of presentations. Photographs, slides and video tapes are separate.
